The size of the rod controls the size of the curl. Larger rods create a soft, wavy movement — great for hair that just needs body. Medium rods build defined curls. Smaller rods create tight spiral curls. For fine hair that falls flat at the crown, a partial perm at the roots adds lift without changing the length or ends.
The first 48 hours after a perm are critical — no washing, no tying up, no heavy product. After that, sulfate-free shampoo, gentle conditioning, and a light leave-in in the morning will keep the pattern defined for months. A deep conditioning treatment a couple weeks after your perm helps lock in moisture and prolong the shape.
